The 240 shares of Carnival I bought at $8.10 are doing pretty well. This is the first time I’ve bought stock and don’t fully understand all the terms. Why is there a closing price and then an after-hours trading price? I always thought when it closed, it closed.

I'm new to the game as well.

I believe after hours trading is called futures.

I bought AAPL on the COVID dip at $275, expecting it would recover pretty quickly. Today it kissed $330, so there’s that.

There is after hours and pre market trading. Depending on what platform you trade on. TDAmeritrade pre market is open at 7 am and after hours is until 8pm, at 8 pm futures take over. Robinhood hours are terrible. I don't think pre market starts until 9 am and after hours ends at like 5. Webull is the best hour wise, but I don't want it....they start at 3 or 4 am pre market. If you notice you will see stocks move a bunch from 4 am to 7 am.....that is because there isnt much volume and easy to manipulate. I had one of my best days today. Hope it continues for a bit yet.......

I bought it because I like to cruise with Holland America, which is owned by Carnival. If you own 100 shares, you get $100 onboard credit for 7 day cruises and $250 onboard credit for cruise of 14 days and longer.

My original plan was to buy 200 shares and sell 100 if and when the price went high enough to cover the 100 I planned to keep. It has far surpassed that threshold, so at this point I will probably just hold on to all of them and see where it goes.

Glad to see someone did well. I purchased too quick, but thankfully the options on the cruise lines, amusement park stocks, and some others got me to break even. I think I was in with 200 shares of CCL at around $17/share. You should consider selling some call options to basically make your initial investment back on that alone. The danger would be getting called of course. You could sell two July 10th expiration, $25 strike price calls and net about $570. If you don't get called, could likely do the same next month, etc. etc.. Even when the stock was down in the low teens, the options were way overpriced. Of course I now wish I would've kept my shares, but my wife's job was iffy and I decided I'd rather have what little I had invested back as liquid cash. Well played.

Market overall today was blah. Was a few decent movers today. I'm playing long on big company stocks that I bought 8-9 weeks ago. Trying out some shorts with smaller penny stock companies. Bought DGLY yesterday near the open for 3.85 and sold it today on a little run at 6.76. Skimmed a $142.50 profit. Wouldn't mind doing that 10 days a month

If interested in some other LE related stocks, look at Wrap Technologies (WRTC). They are the company making a device called the BolaWrap which shoots out a line and hopefully wraps around a person's arms and/or legs and prevents movement. These are the kind of devices the "defund the police" folks would rather arm critical incident responders with.

I thought I'd be slick and jump on DPW Holdings at open based on their premarket of +200% and announcement of getting some huge defense contractors signed on. Figured I'd ride it to afternoon and sell of for what I was hoping for at least a 25% profit. Well, I hit that 25% profit in the first 20 mins of the open but it never continued that trend. Now it's closed at $3. :abused: Looks like this will be a hold for a bit. Really frustrating because the stock hadn't been open for trading during normal hours since the announcement. Trading volume on the stock was 106M over average. Unfortunately it was the guys that had made all the money in the premarket dumping theirs on the poors like me.
I'm still ahead 29% on my RH portfolio so I'm happy with that.

I have a friend that is a CFO and he believes that by the time our national debt explodes and the socialists run out of "rich people", our tax rates will balloon later.

He recommends converting IRA to Roth and take the tax hit now due to later rates going sky high, he's actually paying uncle sam 100K it tax because he feels so strongly about it.

Im not going to incur tax penalty now, but seriously thinking of more Roth funding.
