As somebody that has bought a lot of steel targets for Friday Night Steel, I would make sure you buy quality stuff that is AR500. When I started, I thought that the AR500 was hype, but after thousands of rounds on our AR500 targets, they still look good. Bobcat steel is a good deal locally. While his stuff isn't cheap, the pricing is very reasonable and the quality will last most people a lifetime.

+1 on BobCat Steel. Mine have been hit with .380, 9, .45, .223, .308 Working Great!

I use a 2x4 post with his base unit. The 2x4 holds up pretty well too. (Especially if you hit the steel.)

Yep Bobcat, I've got a full size IDPA steel in AR 500 from him, I've hit it with everything I can get my hands on, the AR500 steel laughs it off.
