While taking my daughter to the ER at the new hospital in Mishawaka, I noticed a NO GUNS ALLOWED BY STATE LAW sign. Had to carry my sick daughter back to the van and put my gun away. Do they have a daycare there? Or did I miss something else?

Unless there is something special about it, you didn't *have* to.

I'm not sure any hospital in Indiana doesn't have such signage.

I'm not aware of any of those hospitals being a place prohibited by law.

This has been discussed here before. State law allows it, but St Joe forbids it. They just refuse to change their signage.

Methodist, in downtown Indy, has METAL DETECTORS, you must pass through, to get into ER, after certain hours, Police, or Sherriff, there too .....

It was my first time there and wasn't sure about a daycare on the premises. That's why I figured the "BY LAW" part of the sign. Thanks for the info.

I live in East Central Indiana and have not seen any signs like you describe. At the first one I DO see, I plan to approach management and say, "Oh, really? Could you cite the appropriate I.C. for me, please?" :)

Do they have a daycare or secure "locked" unit (ie to stay there the doc has to declare mentally incompetent or a danger to self/others)

If not, then the sign is incorrect.

Both the hospitals in Kokomo have the sign as well as most wellness clinics here. All have a 'locked down' facility or treatment center and/or daycare but they do not mention state law. They say it is policy. They also mention trespassing if trying to enter with firearm. There are special lock boxes for officers if you know where to go.

St. Vincent's up by 86th's sign says no guns except law enforcement and doesn't mention state law. But yes, hospitals are not legally gun free zones. I think the VA hospital might be exempt though.

The Socialist Security orifice is a Weapon Free Zone.

I have never observed the VA clinic as being gun free. I just drop the guys off and come back later.

The SSA office and VA hospitals are federal buildings, so federal policy applies. Federal policy is to not allow anyone but duly commissioned law enforcement officers to carry firearms inside.
