So you want to be a gunsmith...

Well, I think I might one day. Does anyone know how to go about becoming one other than having trusting (and potentially forgiving) friends? Any colleges or universities offer this as a class anymore? Do you merely take up an apprenticeship with someone?

I'm going to have between six and sixteen weeks of downtime and keep looking for things to keep me busy other than vegging out in front of the boob tube. I plan on building a rifle but keep looking for other things to do too.

If any of you are gunsmiths, any advice would be appreciative. Of course, advice from others are also welcome.

You may want to look into the NRA gunsmith schools they run over the summer. I have no experience with them, but have heard good things.

If you don't have any metal working experiance, start with one of the classes at Warren Central (or your local hs) they have adult learning programs. Become a basic machinist first.

I know alot of people who have built ar,15s they are not the sharpest tools in the shed me included you should be alright unless your mounting the barrel to the upper.
