I just bought two model 10 Smiths. One is a 10-5 serial D7461XX. The other is a model 10-6 serial D5801XX. I am curious about year made. Is there a good website I can look up information on these? Thanks guys

Call S&W customer service. They can give you that info. You may only get the year made, or the whole month day year. It just depends on who answers.

Can you provide some info on this serial number from a 586 no dash?

    AAE88XX

The "alphanumeric" - letters followed by numbers - serial numbers began in 1980.
The S&W L frames, your Mod 586, were the first S&W's produced with this type of serial number.
Yours then was produced in 1980-81 with some of that serial number as late as Oct of 1982. It's is very nice 357, one of the first ones too.:)

Awesome! Thanks a lot. It's actually on its way to S&W to get the firing pin/ bushing modification done.

Yeah the gun will come back with an "M" stamp from S&W to show that's it's had the work done.
The 586 is the S&W Python in my opinion.

Try the Remington 125 gr SJHP in it when it gets back.
Hot and accurate rounds in my 586.

I have always really liked the 586. I had one years ago and sold it. Been kicking myself ever since. Finally got one back!

I'll try the rounds. I'll be working up some loads eventually.

BHC 06XX is probably early 1991.

The thing on S&W serial numbers is by the time they got to letters and numbers they didn't always go in alphabetic order.
They'd stop, go to a different set of letters and later on return to where they stopped and had numbers left to use.

Over on the S&W forum we pull our hair out trying to date revolvers!

i bought a new 586-8 last year, pretty much because I can't cough up enough for a python. I've been very happy with it.

    To slow I guess:):

Not too bad though.:) Could you put a ballpark value on it? No papers, box, etc. Just the revolver in excellent condition. Bluing great, stocks in great condition since it's had Pachmayr's on it most of it's life. All original, never worked on.
