I do not look forward to riots in cities, Civil War (citizens against the gov't) or ants vs grasshoppers after a man made, man encouraged, or natural disaster. 3 different responses.

First, I think of tornados,every 4-5 years one comes too close to McCordsville. But worries me lately is the reports of hackers from China or Russia (our "allies")trying to shut down the electric grid(s). If that were to happen, (region or nation) all the things discussed in the survival forum could come into play. No water, gas immediatly. After a week most people low on food, medicines. Katrina style Gov. intervention, Martial Law? Makes me want to buy 100lbs, beans and rice, fill den with Ice Mtn.

Some water bottlers will stamp containers with best by or other "expiration" dates. These are useful in keeping products rotated. If the product has exceeded these manufacturer suggested shelf lives, it doesn't mean the water is not perfectly safe to drink.

Most useful measurements are two dimensions (lb/sq.ft, HP/lb, $/round). So on the fly, I am going to list a set of potential SHTF-initiating events, and assess their Impact (1-10, with 10 being worst) and Probability (with 10 being most certain). You all can add to or revise this:

I think the inter-dependent infrastructure of our modern society means that one major event, or even a few isolated events could result in massive disorder to the entire system.

There are so many scenarios...who could have conceived that hijackers would fly two airliners into the WTC and one into the Pentagon? Until one day--it happened!

The key may be not to strive so hard to figure out what lights the fuse, but what the explosion will result in.
