Far from making such things impossible, British gun control has simply created a country-wide victim zone and violent crime has spiked (making the UK the violent crime capital of Europe).

Same thing for Australia since their gun ban.

    http://www.examiner.com/x-2879-Austin-Gun-Rights-Examiner~y2009m4d8-Australia-experiencing-more-violent-crime-despite-gun-ban

Cross-country comparisons are difficult because of many factors, including cultural ones. For example, one can find examples of low violent crime rates in both countries with very few firearms (i.e. Japan) and free private firearms ownership (i.e. Switzerland) as well as high violent crime rates in countries with very few firearms (i.e. Jamaica).

However, what makes both the UK and Aus so instructive is that they are both island nations with comparatively easy to control borders for which the before and after results can be examined (and are pretty clear).

In both cases more guns = less violent crime whereas, less guns = more violent crime. Just as data in the U.S. has indicated for states before/after passing “shall issue” concealed carry legislation.

The straw man often reported is that “gun related crime/violence” is down. Maybe that’s true (if the stats are handpicked). Sometimes it’s objectively not (ex. there’s been no difference in firearms related robberies in Aus). What’s conveniently ignored by the gun control crowd is the overall violent crime rate. Isn’t that what’s important? A murder victim doesn’t care if a gun, knife, baseball bat, etc. was used.

The dirty little secret is that gun control is not about crime (or safety, or “the children”, etc.). That’s just plausible political cover.

Gun control is about control. Plain and simple.

Don't forget self defense of any kind is illegal in GB; you can also get 2 years in jail just for carrying a pocket knife.

So much for the "ban", eh?

This from the country that forced The King to sign The Magna Carta.
I realize that the Magna Carta was signed in 1215 to protect the rights of the Nobility in England.
But with their Socialist regime in power, isn't everyone equal to the Nobility?
    No class lines?
    No preferential treatment?
    Everyone on the same footing?
If that's the case everyone there should have the right of Personal Protection as laid down in that document.
Seems like Socialism and Individual Rights are incompatible.

But if the British were allowed to own guns, just think how many more people would die from all the Glocks going boom all the time.

I wonder what firearm was used. All of the articles I have read just say gun.

They're not much for semantic; especially when it comes to firearms. From what I read, he was using a "hunting rifle with a scope" I've not read anything more about the firearm used.

The media hasn't said "assault weapon" or "high powered rifle" yet. Amazing. Why do I get the feeling Daly and the Brady Bunch will try to use this tragedy to push their agendas. Wonder how long it will take.

    In this country the press would scream;
Deranged Right Wing Nut armed with an "Automatic Bolt Action Assault Hunting Rifle", fitted with a "High Power Sniper Scope," designed to kill people at extreme distances, slaughters countless people as they cower in fear.
Helmke decries the lack of sufficient gun laws to protect the Public.

Never mind if a couple of the victims, or passers by, had been armed the incident could have ended a lot sooner, with significantly fewer dead.

This must be a hoax. Everyone knows that there are no guns in the UK. He must have been unaware of the gun ban. I'm sure he was obsessed with U.S. gun culture. Our gun culture is to blame
