MOSCOW, Russia (CNN) -- Russia expressed interest in using Cuban airfields during patrol missions of its strategic bombers, Russia's Interfax news agency reported
"There are four or five airfields in Cuba with 4,000-meter-long runways, which absolutely suit us," Maj. Gen. Anatoly Zhikharev told Interfax.
Zhikharev, who is the chief of staff of the Russian Air Force's long-range aviation, said, "If the two chiefs of state display such a political will, we are ready to fly there."
Zhikharev also told Interfax that Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez has offered a military airfield on La Orchila island as a temporary base for Russian strategic bombers.
"If a relevant political decision is made, this is possible," he said, according to Interfax. Zhikharev said he visited La Orchila in 2008 and can confirm that with minor reconstruction, the airfield owned by a local naval base can accept fully-loaded Russian strategic bombers

Russia is the biggest threat in the world today. While we debate about drilling for oil, Russia is covertly trying to get power over all of the worlds oil. They are drilling everywhere possible and befriending countries with mass amounts of oil in order to get control of their pipeplines. That is why they invaded Georgia because their is one major pipeline that runs through that country. The United States is being surpased while we want to save the polar bears (which have actually tripled in population!) and institute a cap-and-trade carbon emissions system.

Russia wants to become a super power like the Soviet Union used to be. Our new president wants to smoke a peace pipe and play chutes and ladders with them. I think Reagan had it figured out back in the 80s.

Have to disagree with you. Yes Russia is a threat as many other nations are but the biggest threat to the US is China.

1) They already "own" us since they are buying up most of our debt
2) They have ICBMs (Nukes that can reach us) AND have those in power that WILL used them.
3) They have killed their own citizens so killing us is not an issue
4) Look in our colleges. Who are we teaching all the math/science/physics/engineering to?
5) American is a buy junkie of "made in china" stuff

Yes Russia is "old school" like us and have the military power but not the manpower to take us out (The Chinese have plenty of manpower). They like we only think of tomorrow and perhaps the next year or 5 years. China thinks in terms of CENTURIES something we in the west have no concept of.

You mention the large amount of US debt held by the Chinese. What's the value of US treasury bills if the US is a smoking ruin?

Who's going to buy all their low priced consumer electronics if we are blasted back to the stone age?

China would love to have us as an economic colony and wield all kinds of pressure and influence over us, but they would not be happy if we were reduced to a pile of ashes.

Correct that China holding power over the US but unlike the Russian's which are not STUPID enough to launch NUKEs the Chinese like Korea are. Those leaders will not think twice nuking the world just line Bin Laden would not. The russian's stil have sane people in power.
