Are there any legal issues with carrying a rifle concealed in Indiana - e.g. an SBR in a backpack? The indiana ccw permit specifically states handguns and in my searching I couldn't find anything that specified one way or the other.

Hmmm... I have really been wanting to go the carbine SBR route for the shoulder stock but if I can't conceal it, that could convince me to go with a pistol instead but I'm not a big fan of the braces.

A brace on an AR pistol isn't really necessary... I think people do it more for looks and was originally designed for people with a handicap for better one handed stability.

Yeah, if I go the pistol route I would probably skip the brace. I wanted to SBR so I could get some better accuracy with the shoulder stock.

    1. Indiana has no statute, outside of hunting regs, as to carrying shoulder guns, openly or concealed, whatever we don't care, just don't carry where statutes prohibit, schools, casinos, post office, courthouses, etc.

    2. When your "SBR" becomes a handgun, you need a license to carry.

    3. Stop it with the "CCW permit" or you'll make half of INGO's head explode.

    4. We don't do concealed vs. open carry here in Indiana. No license for a rifle needed unless your "rifle" is really a handgun ala Johnny Estep. Carry in a guitar cases, backpack, duct taped to your forehead, does not matter.

    A. Is my rifle a handgun or a rifle?

    If rifle, no license needed.

    If handgun, get the license.

    B. Get the license regardless and that way you don't have problems.

I already have my license and have had it for a long time. I have just never considered how rifles might be impacted by concealed carry so I pulled out my license and saw the "To Carry Handgun" wording which started me down the rabbit hole.

    I beg to differ sir.
The question posed was, "Is there a law against carrying a rifle concealed".
He then asked about an S.B.R.
By definition, the two are "rifles", and NOT handguns.
Which is why he said.. if it is a pistol, you need a license.

    A SBR isn't a pistol.
    therefore...

    How does this happen?
I understand that a handgun needs a license to carry, but as I stated upthread, a rifle is not a handgun, unless it's reconfigured, but then it's not a rifle...

I had to Google the name Johnny Epstep, but that conviction seems specious to me.

that is pretty interesting. According to that, any pistol grip shotgun is a pistol. I bought one from a dealer and i'm almost positive it was sold as a rifle.

    Umm, what?

If it is a pistol, then you need a license.
You are correct, I was repeating the reason I have heard people use for carrying an AR pistol in their vehicle vs a rifle. The laws appear to allow carrying a loaded rifle in quite a few states so I don’t know why they say that.

    as I said. I’m not a lawyer
