I was looking at bring back certificates and I noticed on one there is an additional hand written statement. "I further that the bearer of this firearm was in the E.T.O. before U.E. day."

My question is what does that statement mean and why is it there?

im guessing E.T.O. is European theater of operations

the other certificate does not have that statement.

    Thanks in advance.

The statement is written after part 3.

Also the stamp is from camp Philip Morris L.H.

So it similar to yours just a little different.

the U could be a V which would make more sense.

One would presume that "the rule" was if you acquired the item prior to VE day, it was not theft but war booty (?) and therefore legal. Just my WAG. I've actually never seen such a document, it is very cool.

I wish I could get some of that stuff. Im for gathering up some INGO members heading to Europe and dominating the place to pillage that communist continent. We save them from the Nazi s and the Commies and what do they do turn socialist. What is up with that. IN probably has more gun owners then Europe has military personal.

Here is what it looks like. The top right corner is gone so for the purpose of the photo there is a complete document below to fill in what is missing. The one I have is very yellow and was obvious folded in a wallet for some time.

I did some research and found out that in Le Havre France there were cigarette camps set up to first recieve then send home American troops. The camps were named after cigarette brands of the time.
