I recently bought a Ranger shotgun (Stevens 520) from a fellow forumnite. Armed with the knowledge of the condition of finish and a cracked stock I made the purchase with a specific project in mind, to create a replica of a Stevens 520 Trench Gun. This is going to require a good bit of work and some cash spent on parts.

This is the gun as it sits right now...

Today a new set of walnut showed up for it, I will need to mill the bottom of the stock for a butt swivel but other than that it is a duplicate of the military wood.

Next I will be ordering a heat shield for it...

Then the action, barrel, and heat shield will get new bluing and this will be the end results...

Why Project Dog Day Afternoon? Because that is one of the very few movies a Stevens 520 makes an appearance in.

:rockwoot: cant wait to see her completely finished:yesway:
where did you buy the stock from? I have an old 520 that has an almost identical crack in the stock. my 520 had its barrel hacked off at one time or another.

Im currently working on a Winchester model 1200 that I purchased yesterday..she is beat the heck but I think I can make something useful out of it.

East Taylor LLC has the heat shields, the wood came from Gun Parts Corp. There are several sources for the wood but I wanted walnut withouot checkering which is what the trench guns used. The military riot guns (no heat shield) used checkered wood.
