Are the racial demographics really an issue here?

were they in the Trayvon Martin case? they shouldn't be an issue, but the race bait-ers choose to throw that in the ring every time the skin color suits there agenda. Where's the "white activists" demonstrating in florida today? will congressman be wearing police uniforms on the floor of the house to show there support?

The racial demographics shouldn't be a factor, regardless what religion the Pope is.

The one who shot the officer demonstrated his character.

Unfortunately, yes. Rule of law is severely disrupted when a president, a state government, and two of the worst shakedown artists will converge demanding vengeance even when none is owed to the point of destroying the life of a man who never should have stood trial in their insistence that since 'one of theirs' died, they wanted a head on a pike regardless of the guilt or lack thereof of that head. The point at issue is that it is highly unlikely that the same president, the same state, or the same two sorry, sorry excuses for 'reverends' are going to have any problem with this man being murdered for doing his job.

As do Sharpton and Jackson almost every time they open their mouths.

For both of them being "Reverends", you never seem to hear anything out of their mouths about us all being children of God, and equal in his sight.

A better question to ask Sharpton and Jackson, why are four out of five African-Americans born with unmarried parents? Go to school, get married and work hard are key principles for everyone, unless you're constantly fundraising for your paycheck like those two are.

I suppose the lesson from the Martin/Zimmerman thing is every killing must be based on race?

....one giant leap backwards for mankind.

This goes well beyond race. While African-American children living below the poverty line are overwhelmingly raised in single parent homes, the solid majority of Hispanic and White kids below the poverty line are as well (White moreso than Hispanic). The issue is not why there are so many African-American kids without both parents, the question is simply why there are so many kids not living with both parents.

There is no complicated answer to this. It's rather simple. As a society we have rejected what was standard morality a couple of generations ago on several levels. We don't even teach that sex is best saved for marriage anymore; we don't even try. We value the luxuries in life beyond the importance of a parent being at home with the kids in the formative years leading to a family that is not viewed as a cohesive unit, but is a medium for 2 individuals to share living expenses. We don't want single parents to feel bad, so we refuse to state the obvious- that 2 parent homes provide, on average, a much better environment to raise kids. The fact that a single parent can do a good job does not mean that having 2 parents is not preferable. I could go on and on.

No, it's not a black issue, it's an issue that affects people of all races.
