I'm new to loading 45. With the 20% off today at extreme, I'm stocking up. I've ran 500 230gr RN with no issues, but I wonder as a 1911 noob, should I be looking at lighter weights? I use Wilson mags. Would hollow points present feeding issues compared to RN? It's a clark custom bbl with comp if that makes a difference.

Usage is paper only. No power factor to make.

    Thx ingo.

230gr bullets should be fine, as far as using hollow-points, it would be trial and error on witch bullets will feed without problems.

The 230grn round nose is the way to go for the foe-five. Anything else is blasphemy.

Xtreme is all I shoot. They are some darn fine bullets and the cheapest too. Now is the time to order. Cabala's had them cheaper than buying direct with a 100 pieces of brass as a mail in rebate coupled with free shipping.

If you want great accuracy try some semi-wadcutters. So far the difference in accuracy from flat point round nose in 200 grain bullets is drastic. So far I've not tried changing the load much between the two using by the same powder and charge.

200gr bullets are commonly used in competition. I loaded around 40-50k on top of 4.3ish gr of Clays, shooting single stack division for years. As soft and accurate a load as could be found. Jake Marten's load.

I shot round nose on occasion, but mainly 200gr molly coated LSWC's. Precision or BBI's.

Incidentally, John M Browning designed the 1911 to shoot a 200gr bullet at 900fps. The military bumped up the bullet to 230gr to use up leftovers from the Colt SAA.

i shoot 200gr LSWC in my limited 45 single stack.
my open 45 single stack has had a steady diet of 155gr LSWC since i bought it used back in the mid 90's.

I use 230gr Xtreme as well. Never had an issue loading or shooting the finished product. 45 is not my primary round but I’ve probably loaded and shot over 2,000 rounds without any issues.

I have been loading 230gr. RN for my .45, but I just worked up some loads for some 200gr coated SWC's. All I can say is "WOW"! Still working on getting the COAL and charge just right, but these are really much more accurate in my 1911 than the standard 230 gr. RN.

Obviously, YMMV, but I was really surprised at the difference (which was not subtle with my skill set and my gun).
