    I am going to make something good. I have a five gallon glazed jug, a ten gallon open jug and a pear tree full of pears.
    This is my first attempt at making wine. Recipes suggestions are all welcome.

    We made our own Krushovac in the dorms. Problem is that once you go outside grapes, fermenation is tougher. B nutrients and enzymes are key.

    It will take some experimentation, a spotting round or three and walking it in. It helps to have a suitemate from Whiting whose last name ends in ovich.:D

    Just asking, but why start with pears?

    Found a recipe I liked. Put everything in the crock yesterday, checked on it this morning to give it a stir. To say the least I was pretty impressed with what I had going down in that jug.

    Pear is one of those fruits that you have to be patient with to get a good clear wine.:)

    Pear Bread

    3 cups pears cored & blended/processed
    2.5 cups flour
    2 cups sugar
    1 cup oil
    3 teaspoons cinnamon
    2 teaspoons baking soda
    2 teaspoon vanilla extract
    1 teaspoon baking powder
    1 teaspoon salt

    mix your pear & liquids, then mix in your solids
    grease pans & bake 55 min @ 350 degrees

    Made my first batch of wine with pears. I used comice, which is what the "fruit of the month club" fruits use for their "royal riviera" pears. I kept seeds and grew trees. This was long enough ago that I have a really big pear tree now. The other one died. The fermentation did well, and the wine was glorious. Just plow in and do it. It may not turn out, but don't stress yourself. Keep at it.

    Should be decent with really sweet pears. From the people I know that have tried home made pear wine, it came out more like apple wine unless the pears were a bit over ripe.

    If the last name ends in ovich, I would expect plums to be far more popular. Have you ever had really good (homemade is much better than the crap they sell at the liquor store) slivovitz?
