If you happen to be a wheel gun guy (or gal), I've been practicing with Speer plastic cases/bullets. They hit hard enough to leave a welt, but a bb-gun backstop (homegrown or otherwise) will suffice. Great way to learn your trigger's creep and to work out that flinch.
Cartridges can be re-loaded literally by hand, and I think its one of the best-kept secrets out there.
Propellant consists of a magnum pistol primer, thats it.
Range may be 7 yards, but for training on technique, they're great for what they are.
