I was a lucky gun-lotto winner and purchased a service grade 1911 from CMP. I got the call on Tuesday and had the gun on Thursday. I thought some of you might like to see what they’re shipping for $1,250.

It looks like a 1945 Ithaca frame with a Remington Rand slide. From what I’ve seen Remington Rand stopped production after 1945 so I got what I was hoping for; a WWII vintage 1911 in good shootable condition. I think the barrel is a replacement added sometime after 1960. That’s fine with me. It’s still USGI issue. The shipping case is impressive.

I don’t know much about 1911’s but I intend to dig into the history of this one as far as practical.

Any comments or suggestions for online sources would be appreciated.

If you have an application in....good luck!

Nice! I have this one's cousin with a RR frame/Ithaca slide.

I didn't spot any Armory markings, just the inspector (FJA), Ordnance Corps marking and a few others.

    Very nice!

There are some pretty good 1911 forums online (an easy Google search away) that have tons of info on GI guns. A really good one if you get into collecting them is: http://coolgunsite.com/

There are also a number of great books on GI 1911s, some of which have themselves become collectors items- including books by Charles W. Clawson (good luck finding them).

I had a beautiful Union Switch & Signal I had to let go because it was too valuable to shoot- I have a really nice Remington Rand arsenal rebuild that I shoot now to get my fix. Enjoy yours! It’s great when these old warhorses get new homes.

Some people have got lucky and have some detailed history. Mine came back with first record of being March 1975, bounced around then ended at CMP…then into my hands. But I wanted as much info as I could get on it. Just more paperwork with serial numbers make it fun.

Congrats! Glad you won the Lottery for one of those CMP Pistols.
My wife's paternal grandfather had an International stamped 1911 all during WWII.
When he passed away in December 2016, it wasn't found amongst his personal belongings or with his military memorabilia...
Although a Letter of Commendation, hand-written by Lt. General Courtney Hodges, Commander of the Ghost Battalion, in which Don served, was found...we had no idea it was even there as he had never mentioned it!

Nice no CMP for me but I got a 1915 US Gov 1911 Colt, a Colt 1911 US Gov frame with 1945 Colt slide Arsenal rebuild, and 1943 Remington Rand and Ithaca GI .45’s.
I carried many Remington Rand and some Ithaca’s while I served in the Army, I hope they all found good homes.
While going through MP school at Ft McClellan AL in the mid 70’s, on detail we drove underground past thousands stored there in caged racks.

Congrats on the piece of history!
I'm getting old - most of the weapons I used in the army have been replaced and are now in museums. I was a 19E, armor crewman. We all had 1911's. (I stayed in long enough to transition to the Beretta M9)

As you enjoy that chunk of steel try and imagine all the places it "could have been".
D-Day? Hurtgen Forest? Or, maybe Saipan or Iwo Jima? Or maybe just stuck in some arms room out at Ft Harrison back during 50's and 60's. Pappy

Old soldiers with old .45’s, funny my Dad in 1965 had a 1911 framed/ 1911a1 slide ( I think Colt), delivered to our Detroit home by the postman.
I know because I answered the mailman’s knock on the door.
He ordered it from the back of the American Legion magazine for $25, and M-1 carbines were $16 ea, but he didn’t order any, but his best buddy got two.
I hunted with one of them in 1974.
(Yep I’m that old soldier) anyway me too in the military 1975-1996, I once saw “thousands” of GI.45’s on racks in storage underground at Ft. McClellan Ala, I wonder how many were destroyed by Clinton, or sent to CMP.
I have written before 21 years an Army MP I never was issued or saw a Colt during that time 90% Remington Rands and sometimes an Ithaca.
I own an Ithaca and a Remington Rsnd, my Daddy’s GI arsenal rebuild, and my 1915 made 1911 GI Colt.
Oh what stories they could tell.
I didn’t like the Beretta at all.

    Congratulations on your CMP prize.

I have one of these that was given to me by my Dad about 30 years ago. He acquired it in the 60's during his service in the USAR. It is an armory rebuild with a WWI vintage Colt frame and a WWII vintage Remington Rand slide. Still shoots plenty good.
