I found it interesting that he crossed his feet when leaving the box while shooting a relatively easy target. That must take some practice. I would probably trip. Pretty awesome that he has practiced enough that he starts to engage targets from the second box while one foot is still in the air. I suppose that is what it takes to get to the next level.

    Not really too hard.

The idea is to get the momentum started as soon as possible.

Hard target: stay there, get the hit then EXPLODE out to the next spot.
Easy target: roll out as you are shooting

    Good way to remember that.

one of the most important things he mentioned was keeping the gun in the high ready. I see lots and lots of local shooters that drop their gun everytime they move or even reload
having the gun up and ready to shoot when you hit your next position is hugely important, same on reloads

it is not about shooting faster, it is about doing everything else faster and this is where the most time on a stage can be made up for all of us

    spot on, jake...
you should be on-target when you enter the second position, just waiting to break the shot for things to settle down and to not be touching outside the shooting area.

it's about being ready to shoot the fastest, not getting to position fastest (why us big guys can still do ok!).

When you aren't shooting, you are doing nothing but burning time and hurting your score. Do all that stuff as fast as you can. When actually shooting, shoot as fast as you can and still get the hits. If you can't get the hits, slow down and aim more. then when you are done shooting and wasting time again, do all that moving, reloading, junk fast! :)

Moving in and out of shooting position is probably the single most important thing to work on if you want to move up in the classes. Get your hits move in and out of shooting position as fast as you possibly can and always have the gun in the High Ready so you can take your shot as soon as you are in position.

If you want to be competitive in a higher class it is important. I can get to any class without moving out of a 3 foot shooting box.

There are maybe 2-3 classifiers of the 108 active ones that actually test position entry and exit to any extent.

It's one of the weak points of the classification system, it really does only test one's ability to stand n' shoot.

But if you want to win matches, that's where it's at. When Stoeger taught here, that was THE biggest difference in his stage runs and everyone else's. His splits and transitions weren't much faster than the A class guys, but he wasted ZERO time entering and exiting a position where as we all did.

This is very true once your skill level has you hitting every target.
