The standard is 15 cents per round. Thus $15 for 100 rounds. That is what it costs to make cartridges, ship them plus a bit of a mark up.

0.15 a round on 223? When was that, 20 years ago? That's only $150/1000.....you can't handload your own that cheap.

It still costs less than 15 cents per round to make and ship. Thus there is a huge markup somewhere in the process. The prices you are seeing are not reflective of costs.
And the same with reloading supplies (powder, bullets, primers). You are being charged far too much given what it costs to make them.
If you are talking costs, then OK...

It still does not equal the inflated prices. With everything, one could be able to spend less than 20 cents per round. What we are seeing is price gouging.
My guess it is the middle man (wholesalers) who are warehousing ammo.
