Sounds like he should not have been carrying a gun at all. That said I carry chambered so I carry a Beretta with a safety. I know people say a safety slows you down, but I would rather die in a gun fight than shoot myself in the *ick.

Besides, you can overcome the extra step of flipping the safety during your pull thru practice.
