    In the trenches for liberty!
I have thought about picking up some AR15 couplers.
I have no experience with them at all.
What types are the best and what should I avoid?
Thanks in advance for the wealth of knowledge that will be coming my way. :)

I would avoid mag couplers in general, as the top round on the "extra" mag can/does vibrate forward under use, preventing the mag from being inserted when you need it. Then there's also the issue of how to carry coupled mags.

The Redi-Mag family of devices prevents these issues by leaving the two mags separate and covering the top of the "extra" mag, but it is also expensive, obstructs/modifies the standard bolt catch when installed, and requires a unique set of manipulations to operate.

i've used them for 3gun/multigun competition. very fast reload, but the issue that shooter521 mentions crops up occasionally. now i use a beta mag if the course of fire calls for a bunch of rounds.

Use a piece of wood or something similar for a spacer and some duct tape to hold them together. Experiment and see if you like and more importantly if your gun functions properly with the extra mag hanging there.

Try rhino's idea first to see if you like it.

I experimented with couplers a few years ago and my conclusion was that they suck.

    YMMV

I have them on all of my MP 5 magazines, (9mm) they work great, for .223, not sure. Blue Force has a device known as Redi-Mag, holds another mag next to the mag well, that might be something to consider.

100 mile an hour tape :) Or duct tape. use a scrap of cardboard in the middle if ya get a lil rattle (ak mags) . Try to think practical. No fancy **** available when SHTF. But the couplers might make a fashion statement, or match your tactical looking wardrobe...lol

if u are not looking for speed, what about using a magpul with dust cover,or after market cover. would that help from the round moving forward and causing problems. ive been looking at couplers.. but after reading..i dont know.
