I just bought a colt light weight commander from 1976. The paint on the aluminum slide was wearing and when i put it in my ultra sonic cleaned all hell broke loose and the paint started coming off. I went ahead and strippers the entire frame but I am looking for a good cerakote shop that doesnt have a ridiculous waiting period and is not over priced. I would like to get the gun done in more of a battleworn design like the kimber I attached. Does anyone have recommendations

Element Armament down in whiteland is where you want to go. He has done that Battleworn finish before, if memory serves correct. Actually, I think if you go to Cerakotes website you can search for examples of their work. They have done a good number of pieces for me- from single color straight forward stuff to full on custom camo stuff. If you want examples, let me know and ill try and post some.

AllenM in Avon at Diamond Collision is my go to guy for Cerakote work. He has done several pieces for me with excellent results. View attachment 155826
This is my Colt Lightweight Commander he did in Titanium on the frame and Midnight Blue on the slide.
For Cerakote, without hesitation...AllenM! He just did a W. German Sig P220 slide for me a few weeks back, and his work was perfect, beyond reasonable, timely...and always good to go local! I will not go elsewhere now!

That's a nice looking gun! If you are going to cerakote anyway have Allen put a better beavertail on there or try to blend that existing Ed Brown a bit better.

The existing beavertail is raw stainless and the frame is raw aluminum i had to strip all the frame and beavertail after i left it in the ultrasonic cleaner too long. When i purchased it (for a really good price) the finish was already wearing off on both the frame and beavertail i am thinking it either was refinished cheap or it just from being holstered since 1976... it really just needs a paintjob. I did a trigger job while i had it apart and damn does it have a nice trigger now 20210822_145801.jpg 20210829_000828.jpg
