    Double-barrel 1911 lands ATF approval
    importation to begin next year

The ATF has given Arsenal the green light to import their double-barreled, double-everything 1911. Arsenal turned a lot of heads a few months back when they announced their truly unique handgun, the AF2011-A1, but many assumed that the gun would never wind up for sale in the U.S., because it fires two cartridges with one pull of the trigger, making it a machine gun according to federal law.
Arsenal maintained that their double trigger design, and matching pair of sears and hammers, would not raise the hackles of the gatekeepers of the guns, and they were right on the money. From their press release:
"The US Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE) has officially granted import permission and sale in the United States of America of the AF2011-A1 Second Century double barrel pistol, with a total score of 120 Points, according to Form 4590.
"Arsenal Firearms Group proudly announces the official distribution to America of the whole line of double barrel firearms and dedicated accessories starting on January the 1st 2013, through the appointed US Importer of Record, Apex International LLC of Middletown, CT and according to a 'Direct Dealer Distribution.'
"The Company wishes to take this opportunity to thank warmly the millions of followers, enthusiasts and supporters in the United States of America and worldwide: they are part of the dream and indeed our main reason to be."
We can't help but be excited about this crazy handgun. Yes, it's ridiculous, we completely agree with that. It's two inches thick and weighs four pounds unloaded. Even with a full set of magazines it's got a capacity of 8+8+1+1 rounds, and it's probably going to cost a cubic foot of money.
It's just… we're so surprised that this gun is going to even be available. How can we not want to get behind one?
Arsenal says that they will have a full line of firearms and accessories and they will launch all of it at the 2013 SHOT Show. This may mean just the AF2011-A1, but we hope it means their Second Century double 1911 chambered in .38 Super and also their highly-anticipated Strizh pistols.
Their Strizh, or Strike One as they plan to market it in the U.S., is a truly 21st century handgun, a striker-fired pistol built on either a polymer or alloy frame designed for law enforcement and competition use. The Russian ministry of defense has already announced that they intend to retire the Makarov and replace it with the Strizh.
Arsenal is a joint Russian and Italian firm that's still just a couple of years old, but they have our attention to say the least. Their designs are innovative and promising, and the wait between now and SHOT Show is going to kill us.

    End of Press release:

Does this even make sense for any reason..? Wouldn't the explosion at the end of the barrel as they left simultaneously make their trajectory unpredictable?

I'm pretty sure the only way this pistol could be sold in the US is if the two triggers operated separately from each other. And if they DO, I can't help but imagine that a guy would be ejecting a lot of unspent cartridges on account of ill pressured trigger pulls.

Why could it not be a single trigger?

If you want a .45 handgun with twice the magazine capacity of a 1911 get a Glock 21.

This thing must be really heavy and hard to conceal as it's like having two 1911s on top of eachother.

Where are people seeing this? It's been around for quite a while, but this is at least the third thread on it in a week.
I think there are more than that.

This gun falls into the same category as the Desert Eagle .50 It's more of a conversation piece/oddity/bragging gun than anything truly useful.

That doesn't mean it woudln't be fun to shoot. ;)

I look at this as an attention getter, like a concept car or runway costume on a model. Not something people really buy, but great for promotion. Obviously it is stirring up chatter like this, so the design is a total success!

So what is it they will be really promoting? The 'Strike One' appears to be something I'd like to buy. Details are still sketchy, but they claim it has the lowest bore axis to date, as well as fastest cycle rate. The barrel also doesn't tilt, so it might be better for suppressors. It could be something that they import a lot of, perhaps earning a place up with Glock, M&P, and XDM's. We shall see. I'd like to see a thread devoted to it...

What explosion at the end of the barrel?

There is gas expansion and release coming out the end of the barrel behind the bullets, basically expansion of gas is pushing the bullets down the barrel where it is then finally released after the bullet has left the barrel.

It makes sense that the expansion from the right barrel will hit the expansion gas from the left. But that happens BEHIND the bullet after the bullet has already exited. While its possible that the mixing of gasses will make turbulence behind the bullet that is significant, its probably not going to matter much to the flight of the bullet as once the gas has exited the barrel it expands in all directions while the bullet only flies in one direction. That wide area expansion of gas diffuses the potential for the gas induced turbulence to be much of an issue in accuracy.

"Made entirely in Italy"...... That tells us everything. Just look at spaghetti western films. On the surface they look legit, but by the end there is twice as much violence and killing. After its over there is always a strange mysterious aspect that you didn't entirely understand.

It's the same with this gun. It looks great, over complicates an established proven formula and while we are entertained, still there is the nagging question "WHY?"

We have all seen "A fistful of dollars". Now we are seeing a double 1911. It must be an Italian thing. This pistol will be like the "COP .357" four barrel derringer. Most of us would like to have one but will never actually buy one. (common sense will kick in) It will be a movie prop for about a year and then will be a collectors model going for three times it's actual value.
