knife fighting is a myth. now, DEFENDING yourself with a knife, there are MANY good instructors.
southnarc, mercop, kelly mccann, dozens of dozens of them. matter of fact, i believe there is a thread in The Cutting Edge, or maybe in here, Training and Tactics, about a good instructor coming around. mercop is holding another Indiana class coming up too.
most of the FMA will require years of training before hitting a level of skill for the instructor to add in a weapon or knife. some do, but most don't.
for defence with a knife, i am a believer in "simple is good".... all the fancy stuff sure is cool... but there are a few basic rules, attacks, and actions which will rule the day in a strugle wth a knife.
in the end: simple and basic wins over fancy and flashy. the sooner you picture what a scenerio with a knife WILL look like, the sooner you can bypass what is truly not needed and get to the heart of the matter. making the assualt stop through one of a few means: threat of violence, over powering violence, blood loss, and loss of will to fight.
Thanks for the input so far. I agree with the simple is best rule. And thats basically all Im looking for, I learn the fancy stuff later, just want basics; to go with other training Im looking into taking. Im located in Indianapolis if that helps with the responses.
