The whole purpose of the way the "mandate" is set up is to run the healthcare insurance companies out of business so the government can take it over. There will be zip-nada-no cost savings realized by anyone in this mess. The physicians, the hospitals, the drug companies, the public. Those who think they're going to make money from this excrement banquet will be sadly mistaken.

This is a funny statement after the recent too big to fail debacle.

Investors disagree as well. Medical devices, health care, and pharma all have enormous opportunities ahead. People are planning how to get rich off of this as we speak - at least you should be planning, if you aren't already.

Oh trust me, the insurance companies will be making money hand over fist on this one. You do realize that they lobbied for this bill and not against it, right?

Well, that contradicts Black's post. I agree with you.

Employers are going to dump health care for their employees because it will be cheaper to pay the fine. Employees will scream when they have to pay the full costs of health care insurance (most don't realize how much their employers pay) and many of them will pay the fine rather than buy insurance.

Insurance companies won't be getting the money from the fines and in the meantime they will be paying out healthcare costs on a smaller pool of premiums. At some point in a couple years, insurance companies will get out of the healthcare business because it will not be profitable. Once the government takes over the insurance pools, they will begin to reduce the compensation allowed for various procedures, thus cutting into the profits of hospitals, medical personnel, and drug companies, as well as increasing taxes on the profits of healthcare-related industries.

The government is already attempting to do some of these things; they will shoot for more as soon as they have monopoly control over the healthcare system.

Entitlements work like cocaine. Initially, it likely will be a boon to the insurance companies until Blackhawk's scenario sets in and then just like when the white powder runs out, there will be wailing and gnashing of teeth as no one but the .gov comes out ahead, in this case by having successfully driven most everyone under a socialist thumb, until, it, in turn, runs broke because it was a batsh*t crazy idea in the first place that Ray Charles could see is not sustainable.

How about the people who pay the fine because insurance costs too much, then gets very ill. They will then buy insurance (no longer can they be denied for pre-existing condition) and have the insurance company foot the bill. After they are treated, dump the insurance and go about paying the fine.

Another comment, but I could be wrong. Hasn't the ACA prevented anyone from taking out a real insurance plan (high deductible/catastrophic insurance) because there are minimum requirements that insurance plans must have? Isn't that what insurance is supposed to be for, to cover you when the bills are too high and you can't pay? With all of these minimum requirements, insurance rates are going to go through the roof.

This bill was designed to have the private insurance industry fail, not in the short term, but in the long run. The insurance companies were supporting this bill to the press to get a seat at the table, but were secretly spending hundreds of millions to defeat the passage of the bill. They knew it was bad, but if you aren't at the table, you can't minimize the damage.

Ever been to a hospital that primarily provides care for Medicaid patients? If you have, you have seen government health care. I didn't like what I saw.

My prediction: the year that a large amount of people start paying the fine rather than pay for insurance will be the year the fine increases to the point that people stick with insurance. That or the gov't will pay an insurance company with the fine that is collected.

I have to agree with level 11, the insurance companies will be considered too big to fail. Despite what Glenn Beck says, I don't believe this is a setup to bankrupt the insurance companies.

That's exactly why many health care systems are in favor of the law, it means that most of their revenue will be coming from insurance companies rather than a pitiful amount that doesn't cover the real cost of care from the government.

I believe that it will go the way of how the feds obtained controlling interest in General Motors, turning insurance companies into a de facto Medicaid entity, and by such attrition, the entire private health insurance industry into a single payer system.

I believe it will be takeover through attrition.

They'll just continue to expand the current socialist platforms of Medicare, Medicaid, and SS, while regulating away the profits of Welpoint, Anthem, etc.

We'll just slowly continue our long march to communism or another Monarchy. Two names, same thing.
