Well, I know it's been a while since I've been around, life and a new job kind of got the better of me.

I've decided to get back in and teach a class or two, so this is the first we decided on, and kind of all coming together quickly.

    Introduction to Defensive Shotgun

This is a moderate intensity class to sharpen your fighting skills with the shotgun. The intent of this course is to teach a student individual techniques and principles for the use of the shotgun in a defensive engagement.

Course Date: Saturday October 2, 2010
    Course Time: 8:00 – 18:00
    Course Location: Nappanee Conservation Club
    Course Cost: $75

You must have the following gear:

Eye and Ear protection (electronic ear pro is highly recommended)
    Brimmed hat or ball cap
Pen / pencil & notepad (something you can keep with you all day for notes)

Tinman, I am interested in this, however I am not sure if my equipment is up to par...

I have a Mossberg 500 persuader (front sight only) with an ATI Top Folding Stock (I have an assortment of firearms for the pistol :))...

Is this even remotely good enough for this class?

Also, what would you recommend as a sling / ammo carrier?

    Yup, that'll work.

Slings are as personal as holsters, everyone likes something different. on my shotguns I prefer the padded VCAS from blue force. It's a 2-point and can be used as a traditional carry strap if you like. really, a traditional carry strap will work, but run what you're comfortable with.

Again for ammo, it's as different as the number of people you ask. I like a side saddle on the gun for immediate action reloads. Just to carry the load to the line, I use a Maxpedition Thermite. I can jam a box and a half of shells in there to keep me on the line for a while. I've also seen folks use the trap vests, or large fanny packs very well. basically, you need to have 4 to 6 shells immediately available for reloads, then carry about a box to the line for proactive loads at the end of the string of fire.
