What would be the best material for backstop?

My son is growing bigger and I want to get him started learning archery, something fun to do in the winter.

Our unfinished basement has 70+ feet of unobstructed space, corner to corner, 9 feet from floor to the bottom of joists.

Targets are readily available, but I have no idea what would be the best option for the back stop. The concrete walls will be ok but I don’t want to replace arrows all the time.

If you want to spend the money on a premade one

Also like you found, the full size horse stall mat for tsc or rural king work well too. Get the thickest one you can. If arrow touchs block or concrete it will be useless afterwards. So maybe buy a couple of horse stall matts and cover alot of space. Just one extra matt will be cheaper than a high end arrow.
