Stop taking your firearms completely apart if you don't know what you're doing. No really.....stop.

Three times this week I've had to reassemble COMPLETELY stripped firearms. All the pins, springs, screws, etc. I received what I like to call "Bag O Gun."

I'm not trying to cut my profit, but seriously....

Cleaning TYPICALLY does not require full disassembly.

I'll gladly put it back together and charge for it....but if we can avoid it, it'll save you the money!

    Respectfully,

    Your local gunsmith

I feel you. Back when I was powersports mechanic full time, I can't yell you how many times I received a motorcycle or ATV in a box.. or several. I finally just stopped accepting them because it was to much time and effort to be be cost effective. By the time I reassembled it and diagnosed and fixed the original issue, it cost way more than most people wanted to pay me. I ended up with a couple decent used bikes that way.

All should pay attention but few will. Absolutely golden advice but a waste of time to suggest it to most. U of Tubes scholars are notorious tinkerers and KNOW everything about anything. :shady:

Last Millenium when I was in the auto industry, we would call those a "basket case". Our techs usually liked them, they paid well as we gave no discount for coming in disassembled. Frequently parts were missing.

When I was a kid my dads mechanic had a sign that read
    LABOR RATES...

    $50 A HOUR
$60 A HOUR IF YOU WATCH
$70 A HOUR IF YOU HELP
$80 A HOUR IF YOU ALREADY KNOW WHATS WRONG
$90 A HOUR IF YOU ALREADY TRIED FIXING IT.

    Or something like that....lol
My old mechanic on the west side had the same sign back in the 80's! :):
