So I am finally getting serious about building my SBR, I just need to line up my upper. I was originally set on a 10.5" Spike's tactical upper from AIM but now I am tempted by some of the 7.5" PDW type uppers. I know there are various opinions on what is to short as far a reliable function but I would like to see if anyone has experience with a sub 10" upper in 5.56?

As long as your not running suppressed a 7.5" will work depending on the break. I had a 7.5" with a firepig on it, and it ran amazingly well. Took off the pig and it was FTE with every round.

And don't go sub 10 if you ever want to run supressed, the unfired powder basically sandblasts the hell outa the can, and if memory serves no major company will do warrent work on it.

Unless you have a new gig on the Thompson Machine T&E team and have been tasked with abusing a SIXTEEN and a THIRTY. :D

I am thinking 7" AR for the SIXTEEN and have been asked to abuse the THIRTY on a .300WM to help up the rating....

Yeah, but if your g18 from the other thread proves anything, you don't count. Exceptions to every rule!

If I was running a pistol caliber upper then having a sub 10" suppressed upper wouldn't be a issue correct?

I bought that upper from AIM, and it is awesome.
