    In the trenches for liberty!
    February 24, 2009
    By Richard L. Cravatts

The fragile ceasefire between Hamas and Israel in the recent Gaza incursion may have brought a tentative peace to that region, but on campuses in California -- the veritable ground zero of anti-Israel sentiment in the academy -- the debate over the 60-year conflict has gained a new, and more insidious, momentum as student demonstrations, protests, and denunciations of racist Zionism, a "brutal occupation," and "genocide" of Arabs were heard on campuses worldwide.

The virulence of anti-Israelism and antisemitism at The University of California, Irvine campus, for instance, has been so flagrant and endemic in recent years that it actually prompted an investigation by the U.S. Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights, the findings of which were issued in a damning 2007 report. But San Francisco State University is not far behind in the ignoble way it has enabled its Muslim students' organizations to create a veritable reign of terror on campus against Jewish and pro-Israel students, while simultaneously attempting to silence voices of opposition, a situation made evident this January when SFSU's College Republicans were once again pushed into the limelight for their outspoken challenges to the school's ubiquitous Palestinianism.

Playing off the recent indignity suffered by former president Bush when an insolent reporter hurled a shoe at the President's head during a press conference, the College Republicans had set up a booth to let students who so wished to sign an anti-Hamas, anti-terror petition and throw a shoe at a Hamas flag. Deeply "offended" by the Republicans for daring to condemn terrorists, rather than the Israeli state in defending its civilians from genocidal attack, members of SFSU's General Union of Palestinian Students (GUPS) and socialist club overturned the table, seized the Hamas flag, and were physically aggressive enough in their assault of the Republican students to result in two of their members, Muhammad Abdullah and Jeremy Stern, being put under arrest.

Given this false sense of moral superiority by the libelous framing of Israel as the singularly most evil nation on earth, its campus enemies at SFSU and elsewhere feel free to speak against it in the most destructive and hurtful way possible. At the same time, pro-Israel, anti-terrorism voices are marginalized, disregarded, shouted down, or, as in the case of the College Republicans most recently, denounced as hate speech, unworthy of being part of an ongoing, vigorous debate, and deserving only of being punished and silenced by those who want only one side of the debate to be heard in what should be a vigorous, thoughtful debate in the ‘marketplace of ideas.'

How have we allowed our campuses to turn into liberal breeding grounds?

    10. Free education for all children in public schools. Abolition of children's factory labor in its present form. Combination of education with industrial production.
Americans are being taxed to support what we call 'public' schools, but are actually "government force-tax-funded schools " Even private schools are government regulated. The purpose is to train the young to work for the communal debt system. We also call it the Department of Education, the NEA and Outcome Based "Education" . These are used so that all children can be indoctrinated and inculcated with the government propaganda, like "majority rules", and "pay your fair share". WHERE are the words "fair share" in the Constitution, Bill of Rights or the Internal Revenue Code (Title 26)?? NO WHERE is "fair share" even suggested !! The philosophical concept of "fair share" comes from the Communist maxim, "From each according to their ability, to each according to their need! This concept is pure socialism. ... America was made the greatest society by its private initiative WORK ETHIC ... Teaching ourselves and others how to "fish" to be self sufficient and produce plenty of EXTRA commodities to if so desired could be shared with others who might be "needy"... Americans have always voluntarily been the MOST generous and charitable society on the planet.

    Communist Manifesto 10 Planks

The socialist have had these plans in the works since the sixties. They are definitely finding the fruits of their labors worthwhile.

I'm new here and don't really want to be controversial so early, yet in the interest of fairness I have to say that I taught in Indiana's public schools for 33 years, retired honorably, and never once taught liberal or left-wing ideas to my students. I believe that if I had done so their parents would have (rightfully) ridden me out of the school building on a rail, complete with tar and feathers. Our kids got a pretty darn good education, too. Maybe it depends on location to an extent, but I don't think it's fair or accurate to paint all of Indiana's public schools with the same brush. A lot of them are doing a good job.

That's not to say there's no liberal influence out there. The NEA (ugh--I held my nose for years and joined because I had to) and lots of the college educators are up to their noses in it. That stuff, for the sake of our kids, we need to watch out for. But be aware that there's good education going on in a lot of Indiana schools.

I want those who keep telling us how "good" our public schools are and how they aren't involved in leftist politics to explain to me why I found Obama campaign material posted in the hallways of my son's school last week when I went in for parent teacher conferences? Why did I find Obama campaign slogans spread up and down the hallway?

Perhaps there are a few teachers who don't force their leftist leanings on students, and don't engage in political activism instead of teaching. But it's widespread, and not being stopped by any teachers either, and that means no teachers are doing a "good job" in our classrooms. Cowering in a corner while other teachers engage in political activism instead of teaching is NOT doing a good job. Period. So, I'm now forced to take steps to find out why my tax dollars are being spent on political activism and campaigning instead of teaching my kid.

As far as I can remember, I never once in 33 years cowered in any corners, nor did I ever hear another teacher in our building campaigning for a particular candidate. Again, I'm not saying this stuff doesn't go on anywhere. I'm saying I never saw it in our little country high school, which by extension means that there ARE places in Indiana where students are not led by their noses into believing in a liberal agenda.

Sorry, and again, I don't want to incite a verbal riot, but I do insist that it does not go on in every Indiana school. Joe, if it does go on in yours, I think you should utilize every legal means at your disposal to stop it. I would.

I think in many cases, it's the few that represent the masses. When a student in college catches someone on video, it speaks volumes. The teachers unions don't help either.

Thank you for your public service! :patriot:

Steve welcome to the forum. I was a D.A.R.E. officer for 16 years and in one way or another was involved in the county schools to some extent. I taught the program in eight of those schools, all elementary. The teachers I worked with were all good conservative based educators. The high school has a few radical lefties but that's not the majority. Just like my profession where one or two bad cops taint the many good ones.

And that is one of the best reasons I can think of to send my kids to school in rural Indiana. ;)

Seriously, thank you for your service.

I have been critical of our educational system, but never of conscientious hard working teachers.
