I'd like to get 4 radios. for the yaesu handhelds, it looks like i can keep it at or underr $150 each radio and get what i want.

Here is an option I may look into. I have an Yaesu 857 which gets me all HF, VHF, and UHF. I also have an Vx-170 HT waterproof 2 meter unit.

I am looking at pick up some of these, WOUXUN KG-UVD1P Product Reviews

They are dual band handhelds that are dirt cheap. Reviews are good. Not my first line gear, but good for handing out to the family in an emergency. They are open, so you have to be careful you do not transmit on a Freq not allowed by law.

Its an option, when I get one I will report how it works.

I have a really nice FT920 set up, just like new 160-6 AM,FM, USB,LSB with CW ,SSB & AM filters installed w/MD-100 mike,External speaker.
I have 4 radios that do everything that this one will
It was my Father-in-laws and has less than 30 hours total on it
I also have a few 2 meter, 6 meter and 440 mobiles
No hand helds though sorry

Ranger -- The Indy Hamfest (http://www.indyhamfest.com/SHOW_MAILER.pdf) is next Saturday (10th) at Camp Sertoma, at the corner of US-53 and German Church Road. This is the largest hamfest in the Indianapols area. Can normally find some good deals.

If you can still find them, the Icom IC-V8 is about $90 (new), but 2-meters only. BUT.. a very good and tough H/T.
