Just traded my savage 17hmr for a marlin 882 ssv. never even shot the 17. just can't jump on that wagon. i know what the 22mag will do plus the marlin is stainless. anyone know wher to get the cheapest 22mag ammo. i've seen it in sportsmans guide for $75 for 500 which ain't bad but then you have shipping.

I bought the same Marlin last November. After working the action about 10,000 times, it is very smooth and the trigger has gotten lots better. It has a 4X scope on it and I gave it to my daughter for her farm, for coyote and GP duties. I am very impressed with it. (I gave it to my precious daughter for her defense, after all)

I bought 1500 rounds of 22 mag ammo from SG. Maybe not the cheapest, but still a good value, I think.

Maybe not a good answer to your question, but this is it.

Try Gander Mountain or Dicks for the .22Mag ammo. I just got a .17HMR Tarus Tracker on a trade and was quite impressed with that round!
