    Indy Going Blue Challenge Coin

This was a community effort that started here on INGO in July of 2014. It's grown to a national call out for support of Law Enforcement Officers. We received our not for profit status just under a year ago and were able to hold a fund raiser in October that benefited an IMPD Officer who was paralyzed in the line of duty.

We have many projects we are working on for the year ahead and many goals to achieve - not the least of which is to help see to it that Indianapolis' Patrol Officers are equipped with proper body armor. We wanted to do something that would help raise funds to achieve our goals while honoring the officers who serve the Indianapolis community. Well...the challenge coins finally arrived today, I have to admit it took my breath away. It's been thirty years since Indiana went without a line of duty death. We wanted a tribute to the men and women who put on that uniform everyday...and we thank God they all came home.

May I ask what the proceeds go for?

That's a fair question. This run will go into the 'general fund' because we are a start up and have some expenses coming.

Our team is a volunteer group, and are only paid in "thank you's". In years past we've paid for the P.O.Box, website, legal stuff out of our own pockets or through people who were very kind to donate their time. This is one of our first attempts to generate funds to cover the simple stuff...anything that is generated over that will go directly to supporting Officers because we are still a volunteer group. We had a meeting with Community Relations officers from every district of IMPD and they've given us a list of needs/wants that we are working on. You would be amazed at how little our officers are supported by their city leadership. There are officers who do bicycle patrol but do not have any means of servicing the bicycles they ride. Anyone who has ever taken a bike to one of the garages around Indy can attest to how expensive that is. There are officers who requested rechargeable flashlights because their work environment can shorten the life expectancy of most tools. There are officers who requested simple coloring books to keep in their cars for when they are working around kids and need something to help calm them. We have a lot to do and a long way to go.

Totally understand. Much the same as teachers who are underpaid yet purchase so many materials and extras for their classrooms.
