Congrats and stay safe out there. The first time you carry outside of your house you have to go to Wal-Mart...it's an INGO rule.

Go through the process of getting your LTCH first. It takes a couple weeks for some and can be time consuming. Then while you wait, pick out the gun that's right for you to carry. See if the local range has it for rent so you can shoot it. Take some classes, basic shooting and handling of guns, then a CCW course that'll teach you how to fight in a conceal carry role

Also, spend a little bit more to get the lifetime carry.

Don't know your experience level with handguns. If you are new, I would highly recommend finding a range near by that offers training. It's well worth the money and time.

    Congrats.

Training is always a good idea. I mean swagger training. Defensive firearm training wouldn't hurt, I guess.

Best self-defense advice I ever got.

Also right after you get your license don't worry some "highly informed ex-police, ex-black op, ex-you fill in the bank" will try to tell you that the life time license is going away. It is not!

Never leave home without your gun. If you take out the trash at night like some of us do, carry a gun and a light.

If you're heading out for the day, it's ok to accidentally forget your keys, wallet and phone, but not your gun.

Also, get the right clothes that conceals your gun and that all depends on how big or small your gun is, where you plan to holster it at and what kind of holster

How long does it take to feel strange if you don't carry? Ie- left it at home for a quick trip.

It won't take long. You get used to that iron on your hip. It happened fast for me, anyway. I had to go to New York a week or so ago and felt naked the whole time. My wife thought it was funny how I slid sideways into chairs with arms when I didn't need to. You get used to going in right hip first and then straightening out just before contact. :):

I got used to having it with me in a day or two.

Something I didn't expect to change was that I've started wearing my pants correctly at my waist instead of like all the cool kids and wearing them closer to the hips. Far more comfortable not to have a gun sitting directly on the hip bone. This may or may not be relevant depending on your age and clothing style. :D

one bit of advice, if you are pulled over for a traffic offense.
hand the officer your permit on top of your license.
It is a lot safer that calling out, I have a gun.
