    That's kind of misleading. It's not the smell of "space", but rather the smell of the inside of the space station. I suspect "space" would be nearly, if not completely scent-free since it's nearly a vacuum.

    Someone should step out of the space station and give it a good wif.

    If you ever used hunting as an excuse to get out of the house, this could come in handy.

    I'm paraphrasing here, but I'm pretty sure that one of the Apollo 11 astronauts described the smell inside the lunar lander after returning from the surface as "It smells like someone fired a carbine in here".

    So... It sounds like they did their research. If I want to smell like the literal fog of war, I've already got that recipe near by.
