its the "wholly unobstructed from plain view" part that worries me since you cant see it under the handguards.

I'm going by this:

I've not seen many SBR's that had much more than a flash suppressor sticking out from a hand guard, certainly not enough real estate to print your name, city and state on it.

But I can fire off a letter to the technical branch and see what they say.
