I learned something today. Someone posted a pic of a rifle they got in trade for some carpentry work. A single barrel bolt action rifle with two triggers had me scratching my head. It was explained to me that you pull one trigger to set the other for a real light trigger pull to fire. Thats a new one on me. Does anyone here have something similar? Thought on the system?

More common on black powder rifles but sure, not rare and it works. The CZ 527 has a somewhat similar system but with one trigger. Work the bolt and pull the trigger for a normal pull weight, or push the trigger forward until you hear a "click" and then the pull weight is down to like 2#.

    Could be anywhere
I have a couple. I like the set trigger configuration for long range shooting (on target set, breath on it when ready to shoot). Short range against skittish game though gives you one metallic click that does not produce a boom. At close range though you can just pull the firing trigger and bypass the set. It does take practice though to generate the familiarity you want in the field.

Watch the movie "Quigley Down Under". The scene where he is "interviewing" for the job with the ranch owner is a perfect example of double trigger usage.

They were popular in Europe on center fires rifles when I was young. That was a long time ago.The system has it's place. Light for long range precision and heaver for close in snap shots. Flintlocks had them first if I am remembering correctly.
