We just finnished not compromising with england (even though some wanted to). Our government was not made to compromise. It was made with "checks and balances" to try to prevent compromising liberty. And to keep it limited in its power, not compromising its growth from none to slow, slow to fast, and fast to out of control.

:+1: Out of rep. Will have to revisit this later!

Compromise is fine, as long as you're not compromising your core principals. Otherwise, it's time to stand your ground and fight for what you believe. Hopefully, more of our politicians will learn this.

I have to doubt that many of them have any principles, core or otherwise.

The Founders designed a government that only works with compromise. Without compromise, we'd still be a British colony. Had they wanted an all or nothing government, George Washington would have been made king. Power is very divided in Washington, therefore the almost 600 people who hold the reigns of power have to be in lockstep or willing compromise. Diversity is our strength, yet we too often want to fight it.

Compromise between men of good will is one thing. But does one make deals with the devil?

Frankly the leftwingers are evil. The left has taken over the democrats and have pushed ideas that are dangerous. The democrats started out, under Jefferson, as a party focused on the common man and maybe a bit anti fedrealist (sort of like the current libertarians). The socialists took the party over in the early 1900s then the progressives gained power after JFK's death with McGovern. Today the democrats are not about the common man but rather focuses on college boy issues like gay rights that do not put food on the table of the common man.

Do we want to compromise with that?

Both parties are full of devils.

Neither party gives a :poop: about the common man. They care about power and getting elected/re-elected to get/retain power.

As for the Dems, where does their pandering to racial minorities and unions fit into this college boy party?

Sadly, JFK was the last in a long line of Democrats who were actually for the people, rather than for big government taking care of the people.

All the minorities and unions get is a bone or two. They have minimum influence. When it comes to policy, it is all college boys issues.

How does gay marriage help the workers? Or gun control? The feminist agenda is anti male, anti gun, anti war, and pro goddess worship.

The workers are told here is a little something to keep you quiet. Now go away and let the elite decide things. In fact it is a common belief among college educated progressives that you can not be a real democrat unless you have a masters. That the masses are too stupid to be allowed to run their own lives.

Yes we have republicans who have been conned into supporting these issues. Lugar is one of them. But by and large most of the conservatives reject these beliefs that dominate the leftwing freaks and kooks.

This idea that "compromise" is the basis of good government is BS.

"Compromise" should ONLY be used in governing when by compromising, NO Constitutional rights, or Life, Liberty, and Property rights are incrementally eroded.

By NOT following that rule, our "leaders" have failed in "secure(ing) the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity,...", and passed on a country with LESS liberty through the generations.

What we've done over the last 200+ years is "compromise" ourselves further down the road to tyranny.

"Compromise" should be used SPARINGLY and CAREFULLY in government.
