The 14th Amendment is fine, just the way it is. The main reason that the birth situation has arisen is that the courts have interpreted it to be the way it is. Not the amendment itself. If you want change, then lobby the courts to change their interpretation of the amendment.

This is why elections matter. Lobbying the courts isn't part of our system and in fact, the courts shouldn't be listening to popular opinion.

In France a few decades ago you had "citizenship by the soil" (that means you have to be born in the country to get the citizenship) like it is in the US now.
Lots of immigrants came from all over Europe, Africa and from other regions just to give birth, just like what we see in the US.
Now they changed to a "citizenship by blood", meaning that one of the parents has to be a French citizen in order for the child to get the citizenship.
In some countries you need both citizenship "by blood and soil" to give your child the citizenship.

Actually, the 14th is pretty specific about this - not much court interpretation at all.

And, this is not a new phenomenon by any means. I remember similar stories being written about Japanese in the 1980s, going to Hawaii IIRC.

It would take another constitutional amendment to change it. I, for one, would be against the change. I think America's history and greatness has been built on encouraging people from "over there" (where ever that may be) to come here. What I find interesting is that people are essentially willing to sacrifice the "benefits" of socialism for American freedoms.

To me, that says that freedom remains more valuable than living off the gov't re-distribution of wealth.

If socialism is so great, why aren't people traveling to China just to give birth? ;)

THIS is why Supreme Court Judges are not voted in, and why they are appointed for life. They are not to be swayed by the "topic of the day". Majority rule is not what was intended by the Founders. We are not supposed to be a Democracy, we were given a Representative Republic. Guess we were not able to keep it.:(

However I feel about the law, I can't say I would not do the same thing in the mothers' shoes.

I would do whatever it took to make my child an American citizen. Imagine growing up in China and living your whole life there. Imagine knowing that your child would be born a citizen of the United States of America.

They might be breaking our laws, but they are doing a hell of a thing for their kids.

It amazes me how quickly some Americans forget just ho wlong ago their families were "foreigners". Is it because this new influx of people are not white, but brown and yellow? Or is it HOW they are getting citizenship? I agree this method is retarded, if they want to be U.S. citizens then they should be U.S. citizens and not have to go through retarded loopholes to do it. I agree with blood or blood/soil citizenship but also naturalizationship that was done in previous centuries. Let them come over here, LEARN OUR LANGUAGE and integrate.

Hey its better than removing their government and installing a democracy right? (purple if necessary)
