Have one, while I don't like leaving my gun in my vehicle, there are times that you have no choice but I won't leave it unsecured. It's better than leaving it in the glove box or center console. At least it prevents a smash and grab. Which is what most thiefs want to do.

I sometimes hide my .38 snubby in a large McD's cup in the cupholder. Anyone looking for the smash and grab probably wouldn't stop to get a drink.:)

I unscrew part of my console and hide mine where it wont be found even if the car is stolen. :)

A chain and lock would be better than nothing and on the cheap.

The reason i want one is that i am a student at IUPUI, although it may be illegal to leave it in my car on school property, its better than having it on me. Also out church has a day care.

Midway has them a little cheeper

    MidwayUSA - Secure-It Large Pistol Security Box 9-1/2" x 6-1/2" x 1-3/4" Steel Black

They have the key lock and the combo versions.
There are some other models available.

I have a couple of these in my vehicles. I did however bolt them down
It comes with a couple of holes pre drilled in the bottom. I drilled some more and lag bolted them to the floorboard. A determined thief with a pry bar will still get them I'm sure but It's better than a cupholder and will take more time.
