I cut and threaded my friends Savage MKII barrel and he wanted the thread protector to blend in with barrel. So I cut the muzzle off, bored it out, and tapped it. I thought it turned out pretty good. I just need to get some cold blue on the seam yet to really blend it in. Here's how it turned out...

That looks great. You should think about doing this more often (says the guy with a Buckmark rifle in need of threading .

Thanks guys, I'd love to be able to do more for people but I don't have an FFL yet, so I can't keep people's firearms overnight. So that kind of limits me on what I can do. Unless you wanna pull the barrel and send it to me.

Very nice job. I always appreciate those who can do things that are beyond my abilities, and this is just one of the many on the list.

How do you tap it and make sure that you are straight and plumb?

I start with tap in the tail stock to get it going then take it out and finish by hand. Once it's tapped, I reindicate off of the tap when it's bottomed out, and then face the backside of the cap. It's worked well so far.
