Not sure if this is in the right section, but I lost my only key to my Honda Recon. Is there a way to get a new one or bypass it with a toggle switch with a "farmers hot wire"?

    Thanks for any suggestions...

Pull the ignition switch and get the key code off of the back. Call a dealer, and get a couple of extra keys. They will probably want a title or other proof of ownership, to be sure you didn't steal it. I'd guess $10-20 for a key.

I had to buy a new ignition for my polaris about 10 years ago when I lost mine. I would think by now they might be able to do a VIN reproduction.

On a side note, I'm not sure how its wired, but it is likely just 3 wires:
    - ground
    - run
    - start

You could likely put a toggle switch between run and ground to turn it on (same as the key in the "run" position), and then a momentary switch (push button) between start and ground for the starter. That's all my lawn mower has. I suspect an ATV isn't much different.

You'll end up spending the same hacking it as just replacing the key, though.

This is for a 04 Recon ES. Not sure if it applys to your machine.

Looking at a wiring diagram it looks to be a 4 wire ignition switch. It looks like in the on position it is R-Br and it the off position it is G-B/W

Read Red to Brown and Green to Black with white tracer.

What to do from this point should be straight forward.
