My buddy ask me if he could have both an AR pistol and rifle at the same time. I told he was GTG as long as his pistol lower was a true pistol lower and he never swapped uppers around. I did the sbr thing so I never got into the pistol deal. Now i'm starting to second guess what I told him. Whats the scoop?

I agree. He will be fine with what you told him as long as he leaves them assembled.

You can certainly have one of each. The pistol lower must remain part of a pistol, and the rifle lower must remain part of a rifle, by which I mean is the other parts that make one a rifle or pistol (barrel, stock) don't wind up on the wrong one. In a way, it's a con game the law tells us to play on ourselves. They're not likely to proactively enforce it, but they can make an example of you if they decide.

Nothing wrong with owning both. just don't swap the uppers around thinking about a fun time. Confiscation of the weapon, fines, lawyers, jail time... Not worth it.
