Hello, I've noticed prices are through the roof on ar's right now. I was considering building one but I am thinking twice now. I assume with people unloading their other guns to pick up ar's I should be able to score a good deal on a different gun. I'm just looking for something to plink / target with aside from a .22. My budget is around $600. Any one have any thoughts? Thanks

    How about a Kel-Tek Sub 2000?

They have 9mm and .40 cal with various mag configurations. I have the Glock 9mm version.
They vary in price around $300 to $400, depending on condition and accessories.

Well if plinking/target shooting is what your looking for, but you dont want a .22LR, you might want to look into something chambered in .17 HMR, it's a fabulously accurate little cartridge that just wrecks havok on small game, it's also relatively inexpensive when compared to centerfire cartridges, unless you reload.

You know, there's a pretty good torpedo launcher for right around $100... ;)

You could get 4-5 Mosins plus a ton of ammo for your $600.

I'd check into an SKS. They shoot the same round as an AK and make a nice rifle. You can keep it stock or go nuts with do-dads. I picked mine up for $300 and really like shooting it. It's accurate and gets the job done.

Then, there is the Mosin. For half that budget, you can put together a very nice scout rifle. The ammunition is cheap (relatively) and they are fun and accurate.

    Kel-Tec also makes the SU-16 that's a .223 chamber.

I'd sell you my SKS if it wasn't already sold. Came with 5 Tapco mags, case, Tapco stock, and was even selling my 960rnds of ammo. I was only $100 over your budget for all of it. You can still find original SKS's for about 250-300 dollars, Tapco stocks around $80, Tapco Mags about $20, half case of ammo for about 150-175. That's about your budget and it's not some sissy .22! The SKS is fairly accurate out to 700 yrds. I know mine was a tack driver at 100yrds without a scope. Get a good scope and the world is your target! :D

    How about This?

How about a Remington 7615 POLICE model pump action .223? It takes AR Mags and be had for around $500.00 with your choice of standard or collapsible stocks with or without pistol grips.
