What would you guys think of an 1985 cj7, with 115k miles (or 145k miles maybe, couldn't understand him very well), hard and soft top, carbed 4.0L straight 6 for $3500?

I'm seeing a lot of rust, a bad attempt of touching up paint in the 4th pic, and looks like it could probably use some new tires. I wouldn't pay that much for it. Maybe $2500, $3000 at the most.

Exactly what's the offroad advantage of a wrangler over a Cherokee?

Price! Get a $2,000 XJ, get around $2,00 in lift, tire, bumpers and you got yourself a budget wheeler. Get a Wrangler TJ or YJ for at the lowest 5k, then add in the bumpers, tire, lift. ETC.

I paid exactly 2 for my XJ. I can get a lift for around 700 that will fit 31's. New tires and rimes for about 1500 and I can go just about anywhere an Wrangler can go of equal size (the downfall is the length, the upside is no wind noise from the soft top).
