    Hello,I have a Charles Daly commander 4" 1911 stainless style pistol.I also have a springfield 1911-A1 to.The springfield pistol has a bushing you turn to remove the spring for field stripping but the charles daly has a stainless rod that sticks out below the barrel.Does this unscrew to allow it to come apart?I see no bushing on the charles daly.Please assume in know nothing and explain it to me.thanks

    Howdy Stove Pipe. Does the rod you describe on the Daly have a hex head in the end or is it smooth? If you have no bushing on that gun it must be a bull barrel.

    Rack the slide back and you will usually see a small hole partway back on the guide rod that you can put a bent paper clip in to hold the spring tension which allows it to come apart easily.
