Back in Black was the first album they recorded after Bon Scott died. It was recorded 2 or 3 months after he died, and was released just 5 months after he died. It sold some 58 million copies, much more than twice the number of any of their other albums, and is ranked as the third highest selling album of all time.

ACDC wasn't big in the USA when Bon died. I few of my friends and I used to rock out to "Let there be Rock" and the Live Album "Let Tere be Blood", but they didn't really hit the scene until " Back in Black".

The transition from DLR to Sammy IMO was more important, because VH was well established in the USA and arguably the biggest band at the time. Either it would work, or not. It did.

But to your point, I can't think of any other bands that switched lead singers and stayed or went to the top like them.
