      Which is better?

if it where me,I would go with .357.The reason is because for training it would be cheaper for rounds and easier to handle.the .357 is more versatile, because you can shot .38 too.:draw:

Red dot on a bolt action

the red dot won't change anything.if you are shooting 0-50 you should be fine.but any further might be harder to sight in.

      Whats the best 22 handgun

When it comes to carrying as a backup,I perfer the walther p22 over the sig mosquito. The walther p22 is very accurate out of the box and has a light frame. Small enough frame to put in your pocket or conceal anywhere on your body.

If you got a 1911 but not 45 what would it be?

I just picked up colt commander 1911 in .38 super, I love it. The .38 super is a great round. fast and burns clean

      Drawbacks of a 1911 micro-compact .45?

I don't have the 45,i just bought the colt commander 38 super. I like it much better to carry than the 45. Its alittle lighter and just as accurate

      .223 bolt action rifles

if it were me I would try to find a .223 24" heavy barrel. But depends on the round count you plan to put through it. The 24" would be easier to handle.
