      Ruger 44 Carbine

Two likely issues: 1) Re-assembly incorrect 2) Ammo incorrect. These guns need slow-burning powders (H110, 2400) to generate proper powder at the gas port. Use fast pistol powders and regardless of velocity you can get FTF as pressure is too low at the gas port. Very similar to a Garand. I...

      22 LR in Canada ?

With laws like that, Mexico must be a model society virtually devoid of gun crime. I mean if you make it nearly impossible for law-abiding citizens to have guns, society will be free of them, right?

      H110 "idiosyncrasies"?

I used to use H110. However even at full power loads in a 41Mag with magnum primers, I had 2 squibs in sub-freezing weather. It does not make much pounding a bullet out of a revolver to sour one one a powder when there are other options. I will run exclusively 2400 once I burn up the last of...

Remington 870 Bolt Opens When Fired

It is relatively normal (and annoying) for a pump gun to partially or totally open when firing high recoil rounds (slugs). Your issue was likely exacerbated by honing your chamber and reducing the grip of the round to the chamber. What were you firing in it? If slugs, I would not worry. If...

      45 Long colt for rifle

+1 on the slow burn. With a longer barrel, why not make use of it? Not that you will use different powders, just that you will favor one end of the spectrum over the other. Not that it applies to the lever action, but an example is the Ruger Deerhunter (semi auto). I have one that was gifted...

Any runners? How do you CC?

My easy pace is sub-7 per mile. The lightest carry gun I own is a Taurus 85 ultralight. I still can't get over the bounce with it and have never made it past a few stride trials in the yard. Perhaps a tighter option, but then that gets uncomfortable. There is a pit bull a few miles from here...

Coyotes in my backyard 4:30 this morning...

Few fences can stop a coyote who wants to get through. They will go under a chain link if they want to. My property used to be an elk farm so it is surrounded in 8ft pagewire fences with 4 inch squares. Typically the coyotes go under, in places that look like only a mouse would do so. But a...

      Road rage related gun death-Vegas

Have we not learned to question what the media tells us yet? Some say she got her son with the gun to go look for them, other sources say she got her son to watch over her while she moved the car away from the house to avoid retribution. How about we wait for this to get sorted out and learn...

Pharmacist Shoots and Kills would be Robber

Good that he worked at an independent pharmacy. I know a CVS pharmacist who had a gun stuck in his face 3 times in 2 months. After the third time, he requested to be moved to days as his nerves couldn't take it anymore. Request denied. Requested security for the store. Request denied. Next...

Advisory Council Discussion of "High-Power Rifle" Proposal

Fear? LOL. I'd feel worse about my position if those on here on the other side weren't so heavily weighted to name-calling and poor ability to understand and debate a reasonable line of discussion. Frankly I find it hard to respond to your post because you can't seem to demonstrate a basic...

Advisory Council Discussion of "High-Power Rifle" Proposal

Your lack of cognitive skills to understand what I wrote, given that your only response to someone who disagrees with you is to call them names, is not surprising. No matter what one's side is on this issue, if all you can do is call people names, you instantly lose all credibility. The...

      SMKs, HPBT, etc. for hunting?

Cons? SMKs are prone to long-range ricochets. I've been present when 200gr SMKs shot prone out of a 300WM ricocheted off rockless, plowed dirt and traveled 1.5 miles downrange. At least half a dozen of them, it was not a fluke. If I truly thought they were a good choice on game (which I...

Advisory Council Discussion of "High-Power Rifle" Proposal

      1) You never spoke out against that. Everyone on these threads talks like they want everything available everywhere. 2) Don't care. I never see another hunter during those seasons, and that's the point. Hunter density is way, way higher during firearms season and therefore the danger is up...

E IN Smith to Pillar bed rifle?

A Dremel, a hand drill, and some Devcon. You can do this. I did one last weekend.

Yotes - A little too close to home

Coyotes get as close as they want to, in IN they have in many places become too cozy with population centers. A few years back I had a coyote emerge from the back field and stand watching my kids play in the backyard from 80 yards. It seemed pretty unconcerned when I stepped out and tried to...

      Saiga 12, How much work?

If what you want is a basically converted gun that is reliable, that will not cost you a lot. $150-200, if you do all the work yourself. Texas AK trigger, CSS billet guard, your choice in grip and stock. But you have to be willing to do the work yourself. It is not rocket science, there are...

Which Bolt Action 22 to get?

If you liked the CZ452, you will love a CZ453. I have a 453 Varmint, the trigger is a major upgrade. I used to shoot Anschutz competitively and I consider the 453 Varmint the best non-competition grade gun I have ever shot. With the model change, I'm not sure what the current-production...

I can't believe how high the guns sold for at a farm auction!

My experience is that there is indeed a sucker born every minute, and they spend far more time at auctions than the rest of us.

Advisory Council Discussion of "High-Power Rifle" Proposal

"The sad thing is that many of those against are probably against hunting of any kind at all or hoplophobes in general. The hunters against are more than likely mostly fudds." I have good, rational, thought-out reasons why I believe high-powered rifles in some areas are a bad idea during deer...

Legal to use Fmj bullet for fox and yote ??

A fmj will travel a long, long ways off a pass-thru and ricochet. I'd be awful careful using them anywhere without a good backstop. I've personally seen them travel >1.5 miles.
