So Rural King once again denies me a purchase...I used my UPIN (which is supposed to prevent this) and they denied my 4473. About 6 years ago they had a sale on a cheap shotgun, so I went in to buy it...put in my UPIN...delay....then deny... Called the NICS number they cleared me, but I never went back found a gun somewhere else...fast forward to now...trying to find a KT P17 around here is like finding a unicorn horn. Called Bedford RK, they have the gun, great drive an hour and a half, fill out the 4473, use my UPIN....denied....freaking again!! I will get this cleared up, hopefully, just going to have to find another source....

Isn't RK one that keeps a record on the address if anyone has ever been denied at an RK store using that address on a 4473 and doesn't even make the call if that's the case? There was a thread on this here somewhere.

From what i learned long ago, rk keeps you on that deny list at corporate. I guess it takes alot to get off it. Seems getting off the nics black list apears to be easier although jumping through hoops isn't very fun.

Try sanders knifes and guns great people cheap transfers. I think it’s $20 they also can order what you want. They will try to get the price close as they can on online stuff.

There are several threads on here about RK corporate keeping a blacklist: once you're denied you stay denied. They won't even run the 4473 till you get the original denial cleared up with the gov't then contact corp to clear it up with them.

I went to my local Rural King recently (Lafayette) and the popcorn machine was gone. What's up with that?

My daughter bought some chics last year from them. They carded her and scanned her ID. I asked what was up with that because she wasn't buying a gun or something like that. Was told that it was Indiana law for buying chics. We all decided not to ever buy from them again. Plus a couple died a few days later. Only real bad experence I have seen with them.

    FYI a upin doesn’t guarantee a “proceed”
We had a guy win a gun at a nra banquet, when he came to pick it up, he filled out the form with his upin, he was delayed, and during the delay, they called and said it was a deny.

Flash forward a week, he comes to pick up the gun, and by now the nra banquet chairman knew he was denied, he offered to pay the man for the gun and use it in s future event, the guy thanks him and says he’ll keep the gun, he asked for a appeal form, we gave him one, and a little while later (I think it was a week or two) and he’d been approved! He picked up his gun and left!

I’ve never been denied, or delayed at every other guns store, since I use my UPIN.. I’m thinking along the lines of Seinfeld, and the episode about reservations… “Clearly you don’t understand about the UPIN” …

When I worked in a shop I did my own Nics checks, and when we would call them in I always got sent to further review (there’s another person in my town with my name) and when the “further review” lady asked for the ntn number she read the name back, I replied “yep, that’s me” she chuckled and gave me a proceed.

I asked her if I got a upin if it would stop me being sent to further review, she said that a upin don’t guarantee a proceed!

I’ve got one even better than rural king denying your sale!, there’s a gun shop in Indiana that will run a background check on you when you pick up your class 3 item! (At least they used too!) Even though you’ve already done the atf background check, even though the atf has contacted the shop and said it’s ok to transfer, even though the 4473 has a line that says “no background check is required because the background check was done during the NFA process”…they still run a Nics background check!

Update, just ordered a P17 through Kenny's Gun Sales, in New Albany. Great people, nice to work with, gun should be there tomorrow, will do the BG check, and pick it up... still love RKs popcorn, and prices on ammo, but.......
Now that Falls City Firearms is gone, everyone should go to Kenny's, just an outstanding store, and really good prices.

A friend of mine got a UPIN because he has a popular name, and he's always denied.

    I didn't change a thing.
    He still gets denied.

Good luck trying to get it sorted out. I get delayed every time. I have a C&R FFL, dozens of tax stamps, my lifetime carry permit, no criminal record and I get delayed every time. I went and got the UPIN and it has done absolutely nothing to help mitigate the problem. I still get delayed and the time frame is still about the same between getting delayed and getting approved. Either late the same day or next morning.

I know they say that it is supposed to streamline the process and speed it up a little bit, but in my experience it has done none of that.

For me the UPIN was a complete waste of time
