FWIW Mod 52 mags can be modded to hold 6 rounds and even heard of 7 rounds working.
I did mine to 6 rounds when I was shooting combat leagues in the winter with 6 round strings.
Original mags are probably to valuable to do the mods too now but aftermarket(triple K I believe is doing them) would be ok to mod that way.
Good luck getting the gun OP.
I posted earlier in the thread Bout the Triple K mags. They have been doing them 6-8 years that I know of. Im happy with them. I parked all of my factorys and went wjth those.

A mentor of mine in the Air Guard was Governors 20 and shot with the Guard team. He said Indiana national Guard had a few Model 52’s they issued for the all guard team back in the mid 1989’s. I’m sure they are king gone. I have a couple boxes of the issue’s Winchester 38 special 148 wadcutter they issued team members for proficiency back in the day.

Interesting gun but sadly this generation won’t appreciate what it was for!
A different gun from a different time. Built by craftsman for a purpose

Both of my sons 24 & 26 shoot 41's and 52's. Somebody has to show them.

I will say this, when my son earned a promotion a few years ago I bought him a mint in box 5 1/2" 41 at a Tipton show. $950.00
I walked buy it and glanced at it and cursed, started walking again and then turned around and opened the conversation. Two min later I was heading to a bank in town.

I never got a chance to shoot a 52 but did get beat by a few when I shot conventional 3 gun bullseye. I have not seen one since about 1978. Still respect them.

A lot like PPC revolvers, I have a Guthridge built PPC. Very heavy 6 inch barrel with an Aristocrat rib sight. It is the top shelf one where the front sight has a slider for the three distance presets. Action is tuned for double action shooting. At one time they were expensive and desired, now very few want them.

Well bad luck on my part. I heard 1300 on the phone, then we went to get some ammo to shot it and he saw my 336 and all of a sudden he wanted to trade, strait up. I told him I couldn’t trade but I’d do his original 1300. It’s the only 336 I’ve got and I have plans for it when I’m gone. I said 1400, he said the only way I could get it was a trade for the Marlin. No money at any price, just the 336. I was angry but kept my cool. Don’t know if I lost a friend or not, but right now I don’t think I care.

edit: I’m gonna let him think about it for a bit and give him a call.
That's a bummer. I don't blame you, though. Unless it's some kind of modern big-box store variant like the 336W, I wouldn't have traded, either. The 52 is probably worth more, but I have more practical uses for a 336, and the one I've got (1952 waffle-top Texan) was purchased from a friend and mentor for a price that made it basically a gift. I'm not letting it go.

Boy thats a blast from the past, packed away I have a Model 10 Smith that I gave to a local up and coming gunsmith geesh 35+ years ago. The PT gunsmith was a man named Lou Ciamillo, then he was a policeman PT gunsmith in Monrovia, MD.
His son now runs Maryland Gun Works in Georgia.

LOL, In my house that Marlin, would have been a "Fart in the Wind" and Big Poppy would have had another 52 Smith.

Full disclosure, Ive never actually owned a Marlin rifle, nothing against them. I just have never owned one.

It’s my original lever gun, purchased late 70’s early 80’s, jm, ser # on the bottom. Going to (a loved one), when I’m done with it. He could have picked 95% of any other gun. Rifle or pistol and it would have been a done deal. I’m miffed because he changed his deal but I could have lived with that. I didn’t say he wanted to buy a box of my 148 gr. Full Wad reloads did I? That didn’t happen.

I know I'm just busting your sack. Ive got a few that I intend to give away and more that I have already given away.
Like your firearms, ones that I used for work in my youth, ones I saved up for, and put away.
I would ride him over that pistol, mine are a love love relationship. 1

Yep, knew that. And believe me if I had one or even two of the modern models I’d now have that Smith. I’ll let him stew a few days and try one more time. I’m still pretty ****** about him changing the deal he started. I don’t deal with that stuff well.

I used to shoot in the indoor Muncie Pistol club league matches in late 1980s to mid 1990s and once used a Smith Model 66 snub nose and came in second to a guy using a Model 52! Back in the day when I could see open sights I would have really enjoyed owning a 52.
